Members of the Birrarung Council were present in the parliamentary gallery for the occasion, including Wurundjeri elders Uncle Dave Wandin and Uncle Andrew Gardiner, and Bunurong elder Uncle Shane Clarke. While Aunty Di Kerr, was unable to attend, her invaluable contributions were acknowledged during the tabling.

In addressing Parliament, the speaker commended the Birrarung Council for its critically important role as the voice of the river, noting that "the health of the river and its land is stronger every day." The Council's work in advocating for the river and holding public entities accountable was celebrated as a cornerstone of the plan’s success.

The report also highlighted the collaborative efforts of Melbourne Water, as the lead agency, and the Yarra Collaborative Committee, chaired by Dr. Jane Doolan. The speaker urged continued momentum in implementing the strategic plan, emphasising that while progress is evident, much work remains to be done.

Looking ahead, the Victorian Government pledged ongoing partnership and collaboration with the Birrarung Council and other entities to ensure the river and its surrounding lands continue to thrive as a living entity enriched by its history, culture, and biodiversity.
