What we will do with your story

By listening to your first-hand experiences, we can learn how all levels of government and other agencies can improve how we prepare for and respond to floods, and help to support our community to keep themselves as safe as possible in future floods.

Melbourne Water will now collate all of your stories and create a summary report. This will be shared publicly with the community, as well as provided to relevant agencies for consideration. This summary report will also be shared with the Independent Review Panel to assist their overall understanding of the flood event.

Stories and images may be used in the summary report. All personal details and identifying information will be removed.

Our collection, use and disclosure of your personal information is regulated by Victorian privacy laws including the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic).

The information you provide is being collected for the purpose of informing the Maribyrnong River Flood Review. By contributing you consent to Melbourne Water collecting any personal information which you provide in, and with, your responses. Personal information includes names, addresses, business details, geographical location information, phone numbers and email addresses.

Melbourne Water may do the following with the information you provide:

  • Publish your submission online as part of the review process, with all identifying information redacted.
  • If required, make your submission available to other Victorian Government agencies governed by the same privacy laws as Melbourne Water.
  • Share the personal information you provided in a de-identified statistical format with other Victorian local and state government authorities that are involved in the review.

Melbourne Water will delete personal information when it is no longer required except where archiving is required and in compliance with any applicable laws including the Public Records Act 1973 (Vic).

You are entitled to access and correct your personal information. If you would like to access or correct the information you have provided to Melbourne Water, please contact us by email, [email protected]. In some cases, requests for personal information may be handled in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic).
