We have commenced tunnel boring works at our Williamsons Road site. These works will involve our tunnel-boring machine (TBM) boring through the ground at approximately 40 metres to make way for the new sewer pipe. We expect the tunnelling to take approximately 12 weeks when the TBM will break through to the retrieval shaft down by the Maribyrnong River.

What to expect

  • Two work crews will be active. Shift changes will be at 6am and 6pm daily (excluding Saturday night and all Sunday).
  • Increase in noise. Generators, crane and the slurry treatment plant equipment will continue to run 24 hours a day, Monday morning to Saturday afternoon. Where possible, sound matting will be used to reduce noise
  • Increased truck movements to and from the site to remove spoil from the slurry treatment plant. This will only occur during daylight hours.
  • Trucks will be inspected to reduce mud leaving the site.

Works will take place from Monday 6am and continue to 6pm Saturday each week. There will be no tunnelling works on Saturday and Sunday night. This will continue to be the standard working hours at this site until further notice.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we undertake these essential works to improve Melbourne’s sewer network. If you have any questions you can view the project FAQs and contact the project team on our Talk to the Project Team page.
