Tunnelling activities will continue at the Williamson Road site over the coming weekend to ensure critical works that are currently underway can continue until complete. Ongoing tunnelling operations will go to a 24 hour, 7 days a week work roster. This is to ensure the tunnel boring machine reaches the retrieval shaft as scheduled.

What to expect

  • We will continue working over this weekend, which will include working all of Saturday and Sunday, both day and night
  • Ongoing work crews will continue on a 24 hour rotation, 7 days a week until tunnelling opertations are complete
  • Equipment will continue to run 24 hours a day. Shut down periods will occur for routine maintenance
  • Trucks delivering goods and removing tunnelling spoil will only be scheduled during daytime hours, 7am to 6pm
  • Trucks will be inspected to reduce mud leaving the site.

Working hours

Ongoing working hours will be 24 hours for 7 days a week. Shift changes occur at 6am and 6pm. This will continue until tunnelling operations are complete.

Progress report

TBM Helen is now past halfway, at 422 meters along the 800 meter journey to the retrieval shaft at Medway golf course. That places the cutter-head under the Future Tram Facility site, remaining between 37 and 38 meters underground.
