Since launching the tunnel-boring machine (TBM) in late September, we've completed the first 200 metres of the 800-metre tunnel. Currently under Williamsons Road, the tunnel will make way for the new sewer pipe from which the TBM will be retrieved on the banks of the Maribyrnong River. We expect to break through to our retrieval shaft in the next few months.

To get the pipes in, crews are currently working 24 hours a day, Monday to Saturday afternoon. On average we are installing two to three pipes a day.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we undertake these essential works to improve Melbourne’s sewer network. If you have any questions you can view the project FAQs and contact the team on our Talk to the Project Team page.
