In Melbourne, a safe, clean and healthy environment is essential to our way of life. With our city always changing and more people wanting to call Melbourne home, we need to undertake more improvements and innovations so we can provide a reliable sewerage system and best recover Melbourne's waste to keep our city healthy today, tomorrow and for generations to come.

What we're doing

On our MRM-NWS Connection project, you may have recently noticed our crews down near Medway Golf Course. We've started works here as part of the next phase of the project to construct the tunnel-boring machine retrieval shaft and begin vegetation removal on the southern side of the river to make way for our new shared-user path which will create a new link in the Maribyrnong River trail.

We expect to be at Medway Golf Course for approximately one year - there's a fair bit for us to do. This includes:

  • Vegetation removal around Medway and on the river bank
  • Excavation of TBM retrieval shaft
  • Micro-tunnelling under the Churchill Ave Main Drain
  • Open cut trenching to install the sewer pipe
  • Earthworks on the river embankments
  • Building the new pipe bridge
  • Building the new shared-user path down near the river

With the construction comes some impacts. If you live near or around Medway Golf Course, you may notice:

  • Dust
  • Noise
  • Vibration
  • Construction traffic
