The Elwood Pier was constructed in the 1950s to cover the outlet structure of the Elwood Main Drain. Since then, it has become a popular and iconic feature of the Elwood foreshore, valued by the local community, beach-users and visitors to the area. It’s also a popular wedding ceremony spot. That’s why as part of the project, we’ll be keeping the same look and feel of the pier’s current appearance; only the size of the structure will change.

What’s included in the design

We’ll be improving the functionality of the existing drain outlet and constructing a new outlet for the new drain alongside the existing structure. Our design will include doubling the width of the Elwood Pier to accommodate the outlet structure for the new drain, with balustrade walls to be installed around the edges to match what’s already there. We’ll also be keeping the unique historical artwork tiles that are currently on the pier.

We anticipate that doubling the width of the space will be a great opportunity for the community to continue enjoying the amenity that the existing pier provides.
