Open Forum (2 April 2025, Maribyrnong)

Our Open Forum event was an opportunity to help us shape the Maribyrnong River catchment flood mitigation study. Community insights and experience of flooding will inform the study’s investigation of mitigation options that prioritise community safety and have the biggest impact on reducing flood risk.

Feedback wall

We asked attendees to share their feedback and their experience during the flood. Here’s what we heard:

  • Submission 19 for parliamentary enquiry covers cost/benefit
  • Would like to know more about whole of catchment approach. Mitigation, engineering solutions, inappropriate development
  • We have 2024 and 2100 1%AEP figures – what about the years in between years – would be more useful for individuals
  • Melb Water needs to respect residents point of the flood wall needs to be removed. It had a critical impact, politics do not come into play
  • Melb Water needs to be more proactive, what happened since the flood is reactive
  • Knock down the wall at VRC
  • We are fortunate enough to have our home on high ground however we feel that more could have been done for our friends down the road
  • More dredging near the Maribyrnong Rd Bridge like previously done.
  • We were OK but helped people in the flood get rescued and find their families before the police came!!
