Maintenance works include:

  • debris collection
  • beach raking
  • weed spraying.

Our maintenance crews are not allowed to move any equipment on the beaches, which can result in areas being skipped. You can help them by packing up personal equipment, like outdoor furniture and boats.

Patterson Lakes Beach Maintenance Strategic Review

In response to residents’ concerns and feedback about beach maintenance, Melbourne Water and City of Kingston engaged an independent consultant to conduct a review and assessment of beach maintenance services.

This review looked at:

  • challenges faced by Melbourne Water and City of Kingston in delivering beach maintenance services that meet community expectations
  • potential improvements to current maintenance processes
  • roles and responsibilities of both organisations in managing the beaches
  • community feedback collected through Melbourne Water’s bi-annual customer satisfaction survey.

Recommended options

The review identified several recommended options for improving beach maintenance at Patterson Lakes. These include:

Melbourne Water is responsible for Tidal Waterways beaches.

City of Kingston is responsible for Quiet Lakes beaches.

Melbourne Water is solely responsible for all Patterson Lakes waterways beaches.

City of Kingston is solely responsible for all Patterson Lakes waterways beaches.

An Owners Corporation is established to be responsible for beach maintenance services at both the Tidal Waterways and Quiet Lakes precincts.

Formation of a dedicated utility jointly owned by Melbourne Water and City of Kingston, with the sole purpose of providing beach maintenance services in both precincts.

Melbourne Water and City of Kingston maintain their current roles and responsibilities for beach maintenance, enhanced by greater transparency to customers.

Melbourne Water and City of Kingston are working together to assess these recommendations and determine the most effective and sustainable solutions moving forward.

Importantly, we want to reassure residents that maintenance service levels for Quiet Lakes and Tidal Waterways beaches will not change without community consultation, which would occur during our 2031 Price Submission process.
