Many years ago, scientists discovered that by adding fresh air into the system this corrosion problem is able to be significantly reduced.

Our air treatment facilities extract these sewerage gases and draw fresh air into the sewerage system. The mix of gases and air is then treated and released into the atmosphere.

The Northern Air Treatment Facility is coming to the end of its service life and requires an upgrade.

Project timeline

  • detailed plans for the upgrade are currently underway with construction expected to start late 2024
  • the construction of the upgraded air treatment facility will be finalised late 2025 and will then require testing and commissioning of the plant
  • completion of the project expected to be mid-2026
