Cullen Street road closure for sewer works

Project summary

As part of this work, we’ve got bypass pumping in Cullen Street and the road is closed at the maintenance hole and in another two maintenance holes nearby.

The drop pipe, inside the maintenance hole plays an important role in transferring sewage from Spotswood onto Melbourne Water's Western Treatment Plant in Werribee.

Work started in January 2024 and we expect to be finished by end May 2024.

The project protects our sewer system and helps it to operate safely for generations to come.

Project update

The project has been completed on time and the street is being reinstated. The concrete footpaths will be installed on Friday 31 May 2024, weather permitting.

Historical medal discovered

An old war medal was discovered at the bottom of the maintenance hole while preparing to start the project.

Our Heritage team is working with the Shrine of Remembrance to see if we can find its owner.

It looks like a WW1 star medal awarded between 1914-15.
