Melbourne Water is working with local councils to update flood models across Greater Melbourne, as part of the Greater Melbourne Flood Information Program. This helps us better understand the risk of current and future flooding, so we can build a safe and resilient city for today, tomorrow and for generations to come.

Many councils have already started talking to their communities about flooding and gathering local flood insights and experiences. This not only helps flood modellers to produce accurate flood maps, but also opens the conversation about flooding with communities, increasing their awareness and knowledge.

The City of Melbourne is currently running consultation until Friday 25 July. To view or contribute your local flood knowledge, visit their Participate Melbourne website.

Melbourne Water also holds regular training sessions on flood modelling and other flood strategy topics. Read more on our Let’s Talk webpage on Flood management strategy capacity building.
