Melbourne Water is working collaboratively with nine councils to gather community input about flooding.

The consultation will run for three weeks, from Monday 4 August to Sunday 24 August, for these local government areas in the Melbourne Water catchment:

This is an important step in the process where the community is invited to share their local knowledge and experiences about flooding associated with drainage and waterways in their area. These local insights ensure the accuracy and quality of the flood models and inform future planning across Melbourne.

How the data from community input will be used:

  • Insights from community will help inform flood models prior to finalising.
  • Modelling experts will receive the information shared by community and use that information to check their model against their experiences and determine if further investigation is needed.
  • The information received during the gathering community input phase will be added to existing Council, Department of Energy Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) and Melbourne Water data to create comprehensive flood maps.
